My cousin has had a pretty good year. His wife and kids are happy and healthy, his job is going well, his finances are managed and he is living a pretty laid back life. However,
He said to me, “I don’t feel like I am really living “The Life” (he actually did air quotations marks).
So I asked him, “Do you know the secrete to life”?
He laughed like I was asking him an impossible question to answer.
Then I said, “Really, I know the secret to life”.
After an awkward pause he said, “Ok, what is it.”?
I quoted a scripture that just happen to be the catalyst that completely changing his life and moved him toward a relationship with our savior.
John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
The problem with us experiencing “The Life” is that we are focusing on the things and circumstances of this world. Jesus came so that we could have a more abundant life. Our eternal life is infinitely more important for us to focus on. If eternity was 1 Trillion years, (and it’s not it is infinity) and we live to be 100 years old. Our lives would represent. .00000001% of eternity. That is 1 hundred millionth of 1 percent. However, we spend 100% of our time worrying about our lives on this earth. Our lives on earth are so insignificant in the light of eternity.
So the secret to life is to stop thinking so much about your life in this world. Jesus said it best,
John 12:25 “He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
