God's Will

Everyone struggles hearing from God. Everyone has a hard time discerning the heart of God. Everyone wants to know Gods will. From Romans we can learn the will of God.

Romans 8:29 For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.

God’s predestined us to be conformed to the image of His Son.
There it is. No more wondering about what God’s plan is for my life. God’s plan is that we be conformed to the image of Jesus.

1.   What does predestined mean?
When God was planning during eternity He pre completed everything. It is much like an engineer. An engineer sees the picture in his head of what he want to create. Then he goes about the business of choosing the materials that must go into the design to make it work according to his design. The he has to finish the design and use mathematics, scientific knowledge and ingenuity to make sure it stands up to the tests of its purpose. God who created the mass universe and has infinite knowledge created you for a specific purpose and that is to be conformed to the likeness of his son and glorify your creator.

 2.      What does it to be conformed.

Consider a lump of clay. I can conform it to many different shapes and perhaps if I work hard enough at it I may be able to turn it into something very valuable. However, this clay has limitations. I cannot make it conform to a fighting sword. I cannot make it conform into a living human being. Because of its DNA it was designed to only conform into a limited amount of things and still be useful. We are designed for one plan, one purpose, and that is to be conformed into the likeness of his son and glorify the creator that created us.

That means that everything that we need to be conformed into the likeness of his Son is already built into our DNA. The whole world and everyone in it has the potential to be conformed into the likeness of his Son. It is part of God’s predestined design.

1.      3. What about free will?

Lastly, in Romans 9:17-23, Paul anticipates the expected question, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will? (v. 19). He then provides the answer, "But who are you O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, 'Why have you made me like this?' Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honored use and another for dishonorable use?" (vv. 20-22).

Paul addresses the question by dealing with the elephant in the room. If God predestined me to be this way, then how can he find fault in what I do? The answer was not what I would have wanted to hear. God can do whatever he wants to do He is God and we are not. However, God does not focus on the fault finding he focuses on the transforming our messes into messages so to help bring more people to Christ and glorify Himself.

In conclusion, I want us to pray that God will help us do away with our own will and be conformed into the likeness of his son. Because His plan brings perfect peace. His plan brings more than enough. His plan brings salvation and eternity with no more crying, no more shame, no more pain. His plan is perfect.
